brain fitness tips

I’ve just started a new series about brain fitness tips to offer you some suggestions as to how you can improve your mind apart from playing brain games. I’ll try to add a new tip every few days or whenever I feel inspired.

Try things ‘blind’

We rely heavily on our vision as it serves us well. Yet, deprived of this sense we can still achieve a great number of things, and it might serve you well to exercise these capabilities. Obviously, this is not typically practical, but on occasion you should try do something in the dark or with your eyes closed. Try this with tying your shoes, it becomes a slightly different task but gives your proprioception / spatial sense, along with your fine motor memory.

Spaztik

Simple but very challenging, Spaztik will challenge your mind on many different fronts. The game is actually a derivative of a task in Broken Mouse that I decided to develop into a game of its own. The goal is very straight-forward: track the motion of the ball with your mouse cursor. The trick is that the ball moves around frantically and does its best to throw you off track. A wonderful workout for your brain, this game will exercise your eye-hand coordination, concentration, reaction speed & fine motor skills. (more…)

Broken Mouse

At long last, Broken Mouse is back. I first released a version of this mind game almost 4 years ago, but eventually removed it because it was buggy. This new verison is considerably different but still presents the same mind-boggling challenge. Frustrating yet strangely addictive, the goal is to work your way through the various challenges in spite of your ‘broken mouse’ which will behave differently at various points throughout the game. This brain game requires a great deal of concentration and effort, but it can be very fun and rewarding once you get the hang of things. (more…)

ReMemory Game

In this memory game, you learn from your experiences and apply them. You will complete the exact same task twice, the first time using trial and error and the second time using your memory.

the game coinsists of a grid of numbers, each of them has one and only one match with a piece of the same number. However, you cannot tell which pieces match; you need to experiment to find them. Drag and drop to make matches.

login issue resolved

For those of you who were having a problem logging into BrainBall, this should now be resolved, so give it another go. If you still have the same issue, try clearing your cache to make sure you are loading the updated page. If the problem persists, please let me know.

daily games back online

BrainBall, WordBall & The Typing Test are back online and beginning new seasons. Good Luck will begin again next week. Site should be displaying properly in all browsers, please let me know if you find otherwise.

I’ll be spending tomorrow making the final transitions to the new site and then I will get about adding the two other memory games, a new typing game, and the remake of Broken Mouse.

internet explorer sucks

well my progress on getting everything back online and working again has hit a snag with the discovery that my theme does not display properly in IE 7. for whatever reason it just won’t show the columns properly. I have spent like 6 hours trying to figure this out, even trying different themes but no matter what I do I get the same result. not sure where to go from here, but just letting you know to expect more changes and delays…

now, that’s much better

Well it’s the middle of the night and I’m super-tired but I’ll be going to bed in a moment feeling much better than I did 4 hours ago. I still have a long way to go, but most of the site is up and working again. There are all sorts of bits and pieces I’ll need to address tomorrow, but all the games should be up and working with the exception of the daily games. No guarantees at the moment, but things seem much more in order now and the site is loading quickly which pleases me greatly.

Yikes…

If you have visited playwithyourmind.com in the past week or two you will have likely noticed that I have been having some problems. After much investigation, I have determined that it was probably my wordpress theme, which is why you will have also noticed that the site looks completely different and many things are not working. Assuming this was the problem, the site should now stay online from here on out, and I will try to rebuild everything as quickly as possible. This is very frustrating for me as I have just entered a phase of promotion so this was a pretty terrible time for this to happen, but better now I guess then a couple months from now when I have even more traffic. Hopefully playwithyourmind.com will emerge from this stronger and better. Stay tuned.

brainball update

No, I haven’t abandoned BrainBall again … I just got sidetracked. It has been hard to gather momentum as I have a lot of other things I need to work on and it’s tough to churn out a new season every month right now since all my previous work has been rendered useless by the updates to the Actionscript language. No worries though, BrainBall will return to form soon enough. In the meantime, I have reset the previous season so at least you have something to play until that day comes.

new additions

This weekend I have added a variety of new content to the site:
-3 new puzzles (a word tease, blankout & word toggle)
-2 new memory exercise (ColorCodes, ScheduleMemory & Iconic Memory)
-a new math & logic game called SwitchBoard

… and coming next is a remake of Broken Mouse, a new typing game & 2 more memory exercises
