Try things ‘blind’

We rely heavily on our vision as it serves us well. Yet, deprived of this sense we can still achieve a great number of things, and it might serve you well to exercise these capabilities. Obviously, this is not typically practical, but on occasion you should try do something in the dark or with your eyes closed. Try this with tying your shoes, it becomes a slightly different task but gives your proprioception / spatial sense, along with your fine motor memory.

Another good things to practice with your eyes close is writing. Granted, you don’t want to do this for anything official, but from time to time give your brain a little exercise and try to do a little writing without relying on your vision.

Finally, something I have done for years, mostly out of habit as opposed to any conscious effort to improve my brain fitness, is feel my way around in the dark at night rather than turning on the light. It’s gentler on your eyes, good for your mind and you’ll be amazed at what other senses you can recruit to help you navigate withour your eyesight.

Very good advice! Definitely, any way you can challenge your brain will benefit your writing skills. Keep your brain young with lots of exercise!
